There is lots happening around the country, all aimed at making us look at the wonders and realities of the universe around us – but one event that we are most excited by is the Tara Moon Schools project.

Blackrock Castle Observatory are inviting every school in Ireland to have their very own unique picture of the Moon, taken by their TARA telescope network. The Observatory will take an image of the Moon for each school from different times of the day/night during Space Week. The image will be unique to each school as taking an image means capturing photons (particles of light) with a camera.

The photons in the image are captured forever and no other camera can capture the exact same photons as your image. These images will then be compiled into a video showing the lunar phases of the Moon during Space Week.
Space Week is Ireland’s newest national STEM week in association with Science Foundation Ireland and Blackrock Castle Observatory.
